- 2. Using the Assessment Exams
- ------------------------------------------------------------
- To become a Microsoft Certified Professional you must pass a
- series of standardized exams which reflect your knowledge
- and skill in planning, implementing, and supporting
- solutions with Microsoft products. The Microsoft
- Certified Professional Assessment Exams are designed to help you
- evaluate your knowledge and skills prior to taking the
- actual certification exams. Version 1.4 of the Assessment
- Exams contains 12 assessment exams:
-
- * Microsoft Windows v3.1
- * Microsoft Windows for Workgroups v3.1
- * Microsoft Windows NT v3.1
- * Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server v3.1
- * Microsoft SQL Server v4.2 Database Implementation
- * Microsoft SQL Server v4.2 Database Administration
- for Microsoft Windows NT
- * Microsoft SQL Server v4.2 Database Administration
- for OS/2
- * Microsoft Visual Basic for Windows v3.0 Application
- Development
- * Microsoft Mail for PC Networks v3.2 - Enterprise

- * Networking with Microsoft Windows v3.1
- * Microsoft Access Application Development
-
- These assessment exams will also give you practice answering
- questions of a format similar to those on the actual exams.
- Because these assessment exams cover many of the concepts
- you are required to know for certification, the higher you
- score on a specific assessment exam, the closer you may be
- to passing the actual certification exam. However, these
- exams do not serve as actual certification exams, nor does
- performance on these exams guarantee or directly correlate
- to the success you may have on the actual certification
- exams.
-
- Setting Your Name
- ------------------------------------------------------
- To set your name on an exam, click the Options button
- on the Select a Test window. This will bring up a
- dialog box that will allow you to enter your first and
- last name. When you start an exam, your name will
- appear in the test introduction and on any score
- reports.
-
- Starting An Exam
- ------------------------------------------------------
- To take an assessment exam, click on one of the exam
- titles in the Select a Test window. Text describing
- the specific exam will appear in the Description
- window. To start the exam, click the Start Test
- button.
-
- There is no time limit on the assessment exams. And,
- you may repeat the assessment exams as often as you
- wish.
-
- On-line help is always available by clicking the Help
- button or pressing F1. Note that only the options
- displayed on screen in the Microsoft Certification
- Assessment Exams version 2.0 are available. You may
- see some options documented in Help which are not
- implemented in this version of the assessment exams.
-
- Answering Questions
- ------------------------------------------------------
- Specific instructions are provided for answering each
- question. Read the on-screen prompts before
- answering a question, to be sure that you understand
- what is expected.
-
- If you answer a question incorrectly, you will be
- given feedback indicating the correct answer. You
- will be allowed to review previous questions and to
- mark those you wish to review later, but you cannot
- change your answer to a question after proceeding to
- the next question. (You may repeat the exam if you
- wish.)
-
- Scoring
- ------------------------------------------------------
- After you end the exam, your score will be
- automatically displayed. You can also check your
- scores on each exam using the Scores button in the
- Select a Test window. A record is kept of all the
- scores for the exams you have taken.
-
- The assessment exams are not scored as pass or fail.
- The score given for each assessment exam enables you
- to evaluate your knowledge and determine if additional
- study may be of benefit.
-
-
- 3. Overview: Microsoft Certified Professional program
- ------------------------------------------------------------
- The Microsoft Certified Professional program identifies
- technical professionals who have the expertise required to
- plan, implement and support solutions with Microsoft
- products. It helps individuals assess and promote their
- skills, and provides a benchmark for organizations to use
- when hiring technical staff, determining training needs, or
- outsourcing technical services.
-
- The Microsoft Certified Professional program offers three
- certifications:
-
- * Microsoft Certified Product Specialists are highly
- skilled at installing and supporting a specific
- Microsoft desktop product, and tuning and customizing
- it to meet the needs of a user or organization.
-
- * Microsoft Certified Systems Engineers can plan,
- implement and maintain information systems with
- Microsoft Windows NT and other Microsoft advanced
- systems and workgroup products.
-
- * Microsoft Certified Trainers are qualified to teach
- specific Microsoft courses, having demonstrated
- their technical expertise along with their teaching
- skills.
-
- * Microsoft Certification for Developers Statement of Direction
-
- We've received many requests to expand our Microsoft
- Certified Professional program to include a certification
- for developers. As a result, we have researched the needs
- of our customers and partners in this area and explored
- approaches to ensure validity and reliability of our
- certification. We plan to formally announce our certification
- for developers in the third quarter of calendar year 1994.
-
- Exam development for this certification is already in
- progress and we will be releasing individual exams as they
- become available. Although passing either of these exams
- does not by itself qualify an individual for Microsoft
- certification, it does provide an opportunity to get an
- early start on completing our developer certification
- requirements. Individuals will receive transcripts from
- Microsoft stating the successful completion of these
- certification exams.
-
-
- To become a Microsoft Certified Professional, you must pass
- a series of exams that validate your technical proficiency
- with Microsoft products and supporting technologies. We
- recommend Microsoft certification for all technical
- professionals who plan, implement and support solutions with
- Microsoft products. This diverse group of professionals
- includes system and network administrators, support
- coordinators, systems engineers, sales support engineers,
- consultants, and trainers. As a Microsoft Certified
- Professional you'll be recognized as a quality source of
- technical information and support on Microsoft products,
- have access to ongoing technical information from Microsoft,
- and receive special invitations to Microsoft conferences and
- events.
-
- Information on the Microsoft Certified Professional program
- can be obtained electronically from Section 1 of the "MS
- Windows User" forum on CompuServe (GO MSWIN), or by calling
- (800) 227-4679. In Canada, call the Microsoft Canada
- Customer Support Centre at (800) 563-9048. Outside the
- United States and Canada, contact the local Microsoft
- Subsidiary or authorized Microsoft distributor.
